Located on the north coast of the island of Corfu about 40km from the capital Corfu Town, the seaside resort of Sidari is one of the most popular resorts on the island. Having a good range of facilities including plenty of bars and restaurants, Sidari also has a choice of 3 excellent sandy beaches, some of the best on Corfu.
Sidari has grown up as a holiday resort since the 1970's and was formerly a fishing village, it has become a well known package holiday destination with some decent holiday accommodation available, it is especially popular with British tourists who arrive in large numbers during the busy summer months when the weather is hot and dry. Sidari is growing year on year and can currently offer in the region of 14,000 holiday beds.
The beach at Sidari is in three sections, the main central beach forming a long sandy bay with shallow, calm water and safe bathing, this is the main sunbathing beach and also offers some water sports facilities, it also carries 'Blue Flag' status for cleanliness. The other sections are to the west at Canal D'Amour and to the east near to the harbour. Take the time to stroll down to the area known as Canal D'Amour ("Channel of Love"), an area of eroding sandstone cliffs, forming a number of small coves and caves, this is a great area for scuba diving or snorkeling.
Sidari has some excellent shops and has a good selection of Tavernas and bars, providing a lively nightlife scene for those who wish to party into the night. Essentially Sidari is a fun resort, not really for those seeking a quiet cultural experience although you do not need to go far to find either peace and quiet or culture, but the resort itself is one of the liveliest on Corfu and is especially popular with the younger set who like to party into the night and laze in the sun by day.
